Add dice
Choose a kind and tap Add, up to eight. The minus takes the last one off.
Roll
Every die that is not frozen is rolled, and the total follows the faces.
Freeze
Tap a die to keep its face through the next roll. Tap it again to free it.
Cup
Rolls land covered. Hold the dice to peek; lift the cup to show everyone.
Undo
Puts back the faces the last roll replaced, freezes and all.
Reset
Back to one six-sided die and an empty log, with an Undo of its own.

A fair roll

A die is only useful if nobody can doubt it. Each face comes from your browser’s own cryptographic random source rather than a formula, and the arithmetic is done so that no face is favoured: a number that would tip the odds towards the low faces is thrown away and drawn again.

The roll is decided the moment you tap. The half second of tumbling is drawn afterwards, and with reduced motion switched on the faces simply land.

Questions

Is the dice roller fair?

Yes. Each face is drawn from your browser’s cryptographic random source, and a draw that would make the low faces slightly more likely is thrown away and made again. Every face of every die is exactly as likely as every other.

How many dice can I roll at once?

Up to eight, in any mix. Choose a kind, tap Add, and choose another: two six-sided dice and a d20 can sit on the same tray and roll together.

Which dice does it have?

Six-sided dice drawn with pips, and a d4, d8, d10, d12 and d20. A roll that includes anything other than a six-sided die says which die each number came from.

Can I keep some dice and roll the others again?

Tap a die to freeze it. A frozen die keeps its face through every roll until you tap it again, which is how a Yahtzee turn is played: keep what you like, roll the rest.

Can I roll the dice in secret?

Turn on the cup and every roll lands covered. Hold a thumb on the dice to look at your own, and lift the cup when it is time to show the table. It is how Liar’s Dice is played.

Do I need an account, and is anything saved?

No account. Your dice and the roll log are kept in this browser, on this device, so they are still here when you come back. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Rolling for a game? Keep its score too

SquareScores keeps the score for Yahtzee, Pig, Liar’s Dice and the rest on everyone’s own phone, with these dice built into the table. At Yahtzee it counts your three rolls and offers what the dice are worth in every open box.
